لذلك تسمى ديوميد الكبرى “جزيرة الغد” والصغرى “جزيرة الأمس”. أيضاً في موسم الشتاء تتحرك كتل ثلجية ضخمة تسد حركة المياه بين الجزيرتين حيث يمكن (نظرياً) العبور فوقها مشياً على الأقدام لكن القوانين تمنع التنقل بين الجزيرتين منعاً باتاً.
