يقع ما بين الأردن، وفلسطين وله عبر التاريخ ذكر في جميع الحضارات التي سكنت حوله، وكلها تنعته بصورة أو بأخرى بصفات تعود إلى شدة ملوحة هذا البحر أو خلوه من الكائنات المائية
