How Mt. St. Helens Made History:
In honor of the 35th anniversary of the eruption of Mt. St. Helens, the U.S. Geological Survey's Facebook page for volcanoes (USGS Volcanoes) has been posting jaw-dropping historical imagery of the event paired with gripping captions. Their latest post, published on May 18, highlights a before and after painting by D. Molenaar and a dramatic shot of the eruption taken by A. Post. As the USGS described the situation: "The gassy magma and hot fluids explode. Gas and rock loft thousands of feet. It’s silent to watchers, but people hundreds of miles away hear distant explosions. The suspended mixture falls back. It accelerates down the flanks to more than three hundred miles an hour. The scorching current surges north, east, and west as a hot hurricane, hugging the landscape. It speeds beyond the landslides. It rides up a near ridge, boils over its top, flows down into the next valley. It rides up and over another ridge, spreading outward

تكريما للذكرى ال35 لاندلاع ماونت سانت هيلين، صفحة الفيسبوك هيئة المسح الجيولوجي الامريكية للبراكين (USGS البراكين) على إلصاق الصور الفك اسقاط التاريخية لهذا الحدث يقترن تعليق تجتاح. أحدث موقعهم، نشرت يوم 18 مايو، ويسلط الضوء قبل وبعد اللوحة من قبل D. مولنار وتسديدة مثيرة للثورة التي اتخذتها A. المشاركة. كما USGS وصف الوضع: "إن الصهارة غازي والسوائل الساخنة تنفجر الغاز ودور علوي الصخور آلاف الأقدام انها صامتة لمراقبات، ولكن الناس بعد مئات الأميال سماع انفجارات بعيدة الخليط مع وقف التنفيذ يرتد فإنه يعجل أسفل الأجنحة... لأكثر من ثلاث مئة ميل في الساعة. عرام التيار الحارقة الشمال والشرق والغرب كما إعصار الساخن، تعانق المناظر الطبيعية، ويسرع وراء الانهيارات الارضية. ويركب فوق سلسلة من التلال القريب، والدمامل على قمته، يتدفق الى اسفل وادي المقبل. ويركب أعلى وفوق التلال أخرى تنتشر إلى الخارج
